Chornalth Adventures - Liga

Arc 4, Episode 48, the Second Mark

Kind of an anti-climax, really.

Our journey began: 11th of Coldeven, 599 C.Y.
It is still the 1st of Ready’reat, 600 C.Y.

Our companions:

Alexia Aerogenesis, Human Paladin of Murlynd
Elerra Vae, Drow Cleric (Ellistrae)/Sorcerer
Flotsam “Sam” Stormsurge, Animan (octopus aspect) Vivisectionist Alchemist
Meroln Sands, Half-elf Fighter
Squizzles, Kobold Bard
Wilfred Fizzlebang, Gnome Summoner & Mekkatorque, his eidolon

As the group shook off the lethargy that had overtaken them while they experienced their individual visions, they briefly compared notes before making their way through the Obsidian Mirror and into the Leering Keep held by the Black Rooks. On the far side of the mirror they found themselves in a small courtyard, where they quickly spotted two individuals. The first was Nigel, who appeared to have become frozen as he came in for a landing, and Vincent, who had already set up a number of chalk-outline symbols on the flagstones.

After greeting the party, he asked once more if they wished his aid in bypassing the demons bound to the walls, which they did. He then stepped into one of the outlines he had set up, pressed a small stone to the walls of the keep, and the walls could be seen to ripple as dozens of demons were sucked into the stone (which a couple of folks recognized as being very similar to the stone being used to construct their own castle in Narwell). When called on this fact, Vincent announced that since there was nothing binding them to complete the recovery of the gems, that this was his “insurance policy” that the group would comply. Alexia tried to detect evil in him then, but he came back negative in that regard. Having nowhere to go but forward, the group left Vincent and the frozen Nigel in the courtyard, and began moving towards the tower they’d identified as Jaliseem’s location.

Almost immediately, they ran into guards investigating the flight of the demons. The guards were dispatched, but not without bloodying the party a bit. When their path to Jaliseem brought them near the vault where Vincent’s gems were located, they fought a second, slightly better prepared group of guards, that they quickly dispatched. Armed with the gems, they made their way to the top of Jaliseem’s tower.

As they approached the living area of the tower, they could both feel and hear an arcane duel taking place. Vincent and Jaliseem were locked in combat with one another, hurling raw energies at one another with little regard to the furnishings, which were smoldering or smashed all about the room. By Wilfred’s estimation, Vincent was not only winning, but he was pulling his punches.

Turning his head to regard the party (while simultaneously increasing the pressure of his assault on Jaliseem), Vincent asked if the group had his gems. At this declaration, Jaliseem went pale and her defenses began to falter as Vincent collected his gems. For his part, Vincent handed the stone with the bound demons to Elerra, and told her to crush the stone when they were ready to leave, and vanished. jaliseem, exhausted, fell to her knees and was easily captured by the party.

Questioning her, the party was disappointed to learn that she actually knew very little about the rituals to come, at least very little that they did not already know. She did identify Sindar Sirion as the one chosen to lead the ritual beneath the Azure Sea, and cattily gave away the location of Losien’s residence and holdings inside Iuz. Saddened that this was the most they could get, they trussed her up and Teleported back to Narwell to turn her over to the Baron for incarceration.

Returning to the site of their castle’s construction, Lseral (who was still there, despite having been cut loose when Elerra converted fully to Cleric) said that the group had a party of emissaries who were awaiting their return. The three huchard turned out to be an architect, a logistics specialist, and a clockwork engineer, all of whom wished to offer their services to the group.

As we parted for the evening, the group was debating making a run against Losien, or at least his keep, hoping to find more information on the ritual he’d been tapped to lead…
